Card Reader delayed Jonathan's accreditation

 www.shadedreflects.blogspot.com
Despite the delay in his accreditation, President Goodluck Jonathan still defended the use of the card reader insisting that as a new voting system hitches are to be expected.

Speaking after he did his accreditation, after a more than 30 minute delay, Jonathan said he was pleading with Nigerians to be patient with INEC and ensure that the nation carries out a free and fair election.

“What is important is that the whole world accepts that Nigeria carries out a free and fair election. Voters should be patient, if I can so should other Nigerians.”

He stressed that Nigerians should not instigate crisis anywhere and ensure that the process is carried out peacefully,

He said the whole world was interested in the election, pointing out that he had received calls from such presidents and heads of state, like Obama, Cameron and Zuma all pleading for peaceful elections to be carried out.

ELECTION: Procedures for voting and release of result

 www.shadedreflects.blogspot.com

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Tuesday released the processes and procedures for the elections as well as the processes of releasing the results during the polls by the presiding officers.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ summit with political parties, Jega informed those present that accreditation of voters would take place from 8a.m. till the last person to join the queue at 1p.m. is accredited, while voting would commence at 1.30p.m. and would end when the last person on the queue has voted.

The INEC chairman further said only persons with the permanent voters’ cards (PVCs) would be accredited, stating that the card readers would be used during the accreditation process.

He said each political party is entitled to an agent at the polling station and that the agent must be properly accredited in accordance with the regulations and guidelines.

Employment Termination: chances of the employee at the court of law

 Continuation of last week's article

2. On the nature and enforceability of collective agreements:
Exhibit M is the main collective agreement made between the Nigeria Employers
Association of Banks, Insurance Companies and Allied Institutions and the
Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions. This
document did not regulate the relationship between the appellant and the
respondent and none of them can sue on it here. Therefore, the call by the
appellant for this court to look at the document and make pronouncements on it
concerning summary dismissal has no legal basis. It was held by the court, that
collective agreements on their own do not give an individual employee the right to
bring an action in respect of any breach of its terms, unless they are accepted to form
part of the terms of employment.

This is good law because the agreement is not made between the employer and his
employee and the law is that, in contract, a non party cannot enforce it, even if it was
made for his benefit.
