The people of Ekiti state and especially the governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose is waiting with finger crossed for the pronouncement of the Supreme court which will determine if he will lead the people of Ekiti for the next four years or he will be asked to step down again. The Supreme court sitting in Abuja would on Tuesday deliver judgement in the appeal that was filed by the All Progressive Congress of the state which challenge the victory of Governor Fayose in the June 21, 2014 governorship election.
It would be remember that the Ekiti Governorship Tribunal upheld Fayose's victory on December 19, 2014 and dismissed the APC petition as baseless and lack of merit. This was why the APC went to the upper court to challenge the victory on the ground that he was not qualify to contest for Governorship election on the basis that he was impeached as a Governor of the state on October 16, 2006. The APC also alleged that the Governor forged his academic certificates and violated the Code of Conduct Rules.
In a state broadcast on Monday, Governor Fayose implored the people of the state to maintain peace and go about their lawful duties. The
governor also thanked the people for voting for all the
Peoples Democratic Party’s candidates in the just concluded House of Assembly
elections, said the victory had confirmed that he had a genuine mandate
of the people.
Meanwhile, some of the residents of Ekiti state has expressed optimism that the judgement will favour the Governor and the people of the state in general. They also wished for peace to reign in the state.
