Man caught with PVC on election day gets certificate of return

A politician caught with several PVCs during the just concluded House Representative elections had been given his certificate of returns. Mr Chukwuemeka Ujam contested to represent the Nkanu East/West seat in Enugu state under the umbrella of the People Democratic Party . He was reportedly caught by the military with a huge number of PVCs during the election.
He was subsequently announced the winner and he has been presented with the certificate of return as a Representative.
 

Irele disease possibly cause by herbicides, says FG

The federal government Saturday said deaths resulting from an unknown disease in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State may have emanated from herbicides chemical used in the area.

Project Director of the National Centre for Disease Control ( NCDC ), Prof. Abdulrahman Nasidi told THISDAY that the cause of the deaths might have been as a result of herbicides in the area.

Nasidi said: "Our team is on the ground, what we are getting is that the deaths is likely to be from herbicides," he said.

The NCDC boss stated that the medical team on ground in Ondo State will continue to monitor the situation so as to tackle the health crisis in the place.
Nasidi also debunked claims that the cause of the deaths might not be unconnected with some diety in the locality.

According to him, while government is not against people having such claims, the medical team is more focused on diagnosing the problem through clinical means.

He further assured of government readiness to find a lasting solution to to the health crisis in Irele.

Oba of Irele explaines the mystery behind the killer disease

A local chief in Ondo State has explained the “mystery” behind a strange and unknown killer disease that has ravaged a town in the state, killing at least 14 people.
The community leader, Moses Enimade, the Oyewoga of Ode Irele in Ondo State, said the disease came as punishment for the “sacrilege” committed against Molokun, the local deity in the area.
Mr. Enimade, next in command to the Oba, Cornelius Olanrewaju-Lebi, stated this in Irele on Saturday.
No fewer than 14 people have died of severe headaches and blindness in the town recently.
There have been no explanation for the disease. Victims have tested negative to Ebola, the deadly and incurable virus that killed thousands across West Africa, including Nigeria.

Boko Haram kills 12 in Gwoza

The attack occurred as the Nigerian Army was trying to evacuate civilians from the area in batches.
A witness, whose parents were killed in the attack, said the militants struck after the soldiers had moved one set of people from the hills around Gwoza, where they had been hiding from the terror attacks.
Before the soldiers could go back for the remaining people, “some Boko Haram members attacked them and slit the throats of 12 people” the witness said.
Military operations by Nigeria, supported by Chad, Niger and Cameroon had however, successfully pushed members of the sect out of most of the areas they had controlled before now, decimating their operational capabilities.
Gwoza, was one of the last places recaptured from the militants by the troops, but pockets of violence are still reported in some areas in the northeast.

Fayose begs for forgiveness

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said he is ready for dialogue with his opponents to bring peace to the state.
He also asked for forgiveness from those he might have offended, saying “nobody is perfect.”
Fayose spoke on Friday at a special prayer session organised for him by the Ansar-udeen Mosque, Atikankan in Ado-Ekiti to celebrate his recent electoral victory at the Supreme Court.
The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have issued a notice of impeachment to the governor, citing eight impeachable offences.
The embattled Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, had last week Thursday requested the state Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, to raise a seven-man panel within seven days of receipt of the letter to investigate Fayose and his deputy, Dr. Kolapo Olusola, over allegations of impunity, violence and stalking among other constitutional breaches.

ONDO: Killer disease caused by a dead body- Reports

The strange illness in a community in Ondo state that has killed at least 14 people who woke up blind, with headache, rashes on their bodies and died 24 hours later has been identified to be a spiritual  attack. According to new reports reaching us, the illness is not a medical condition. The state commissioner for Information and Strategy said the illness and sudden death is connected to an exhumed corpse in the community. He said people who've died so far were those who had contact with the people who exhumed the corpse.

However, a source said there was a group of people who invaded a shrine that are being attacked
"The said death by an unknown disease in Ode Irele in Ondo state, is not a disease as believed, it's actually a spiritual attack in the village meted on some indigene in that locality who invaded the village shrine.."

Supreme court orders Ondo state house of assembly Rep to vacate office

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered ‎ a member of House of Representatives representing Akure South/North Federal Constituency of Ondo State, ‎Ifedayo Abegunde, to vacate his seat on account of his defection from the Labour Party, which sponsored his election in 2011, to the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.

‎In a unanimous decision by the seven-man panel, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, the apex court held that Abegunde’s defection could not be justified since his excuse of purported division in the Labour Party was not in existence in the “national structure” of the party.

The court noted that the division and factionalisation, cited by Abegunde as his excuse for abandoning the LP, was only at the state level.
Justice Musa Muhammad, who read the lead judgment, held that only a “division” that makes it “impossible or impracticable” for the party to function, by virtue of the provision in Section 68(1)(g) of the constitution, justifies a person’s defection to another party.
Abegunde had defected from LP to the ACN in 2011, and in a bid to pre-empt the party from recalling him, filed a suit at the Federal High Court.
He lost the case at the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal and subsequently appealed to the Supreme Court.
